Moral stories in english - The Mirror of Truth

The Mirror of Truth

Once upon a time, in a tiny village called Brightwood, lived a boy named Karan. He was a shy and quiet boy who liked to play by himself. What made Karan special was that he was very creative — he loved to draw and paint. But he had one problem: he was always afraid of what others thought of him. He would often hide his drawings or throw them away because he felt they weren’t good enough.

One afternoon, as Karan walked through the village market, he noticed a small shop he had never seen before. The sign above it said “The Mirror of Truth”. Curious, he stepped inside. The shop was dusty, and a faint light came from an old lamp. At the center stood a tall, beautiful mirror with a golden frame. Its surface shimmered like water. An old man appeared from behind a curtain.

“Welcome, young one,” said the man. “This is the Mirror of Truth. Whatever you seek, it will show you… but only if your heart is open.”

Karan felt a strange pull towards the mirror. “What does it do?” he asked softly.

The old man smiled. “It shows you who you truly are. Not the person you pretend to be, or the person you fear to be, but the person you really are inside.”

Karan felt nervous but stepped closer. As he stood in front of the mirror, he expected to see himself — shy and frightened. But the mirror shimmered, and suddenly Karan saw a boy holding a paintbrush, surrounded by beautiful, colorful artworks. The boy in the mirror was smiling, confident, and proud. It was Karan, but in a way he had never seen himself before.

He stepped back in surprise. “That’s…me?”

The old man nodded. “That is the truth of your heart, Karan. You have a gift, and it shines brighter than you can imagine. But first, you must believe in it.”

Karan felt a warmth spread through him. All those years of doubt and fear suddenly felt like mist disappearing in the morning sun. He ran home with a new spark in his heart.

That evening, Karan pulled out his paints and paper. This time, he didn’t hide. He drew the flowers he had seen in the fields, the stars in the midnight skies, and the smiling faces of friends he hoped to have one day. He worked long into the night, and when the morning came, his room was filled with beautiful drawings.

Karan decided to show his work to others. At first, he felt scared, but he remembered the boy he had seen in the Mirror of Truth — strong, confident, and happy. So he took a deep breath and went to the village square, where people were setting up a market. He put up a small stand and laid out his drawings. “Paintings for sale,” he announced shyly.

At first, only a few people came. An old woman stopped and smiled. “Your drawings have so much heart, Karan,” she said. “They make me feel happy.”

A little girl came running and pointed at a picture of a butterfly. “That one is beautiful!” she said. “May I have it?” Karan gave it to her with a shy smile.

Soon, more people came. They admired his drawings and praised him for sharing his gift. For the first time, Karan felt proud of who he was. The boy he had seen in the mirror — the one he felt afraid to be — was coming to life in the real world.

Days turned into weeks, and Karan’s art became popular in Brightwood. People came from far away to buy his drawings, and soon he was teaching other children how to paint and express themselves. But no matter how popular he became, he never forgot the lesson he learned from the Mirror of Truth.

One evening, as he walked by the old shop, he stopped and looked through the dusty window. The mirror was still there, shining quietly. The old man waved from inside, and Karan waved back, smiling. He felt grateful for that magical mirror and the lesson it gave him:

The person you truly are is worth sharing with the world. Never hide your gifts out of fear. Let your heart guide you, and others will see the beauty that shines within.

Moral of the Story
